Privacy
Privacy, in plain words
Brain Bell is built so that we need to know as little as possible about anyone who uses it, and nothing about children.
What players share with us
There are no accounts, and we never ask for an email address, a birthday or a photo. In most quizzes players get a generated name like "Brave Otter", a seat number, or a private code from their host, so we do not know who is playing.
A host running a quiz for adults, such as a team event, can choose to let people type a display name. That name is seen by the host and on the leaderboard, and it is held only while the quiz runs. This option is not meant for children's classes.
Live quizzes
A live quiz is held in the memory of our server while it runs: the questions, names and answers. It is not saved to a database. It is deleted about ten minutes after the final results, after twenty minutes with no activity, or after four hours at most. A host can download the results before then, and that file is then theirs to look after.
What stays on your device
Your quizzes, grade band, today's progress, streak, and display and sound settings are saved in your own browser (local storage). They do not leave your device unless you start a live quiz or share a quiz yourself. Clearing your browser data removes them. We do not set cookies for tracking or advertising.
Our hosting provider
The site and live quizzes run on Cloudflare, which handles the connection between your device and our site. Like any web host, it processes technical details such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the service from abuse, including limiting how many connections one address can open. We do not use those details to identify or follow anyone.
Analytics
We do not currently run any visitor analytics. If we add them, we will use a privacy-friendly tool that sets no cookies and does not follow people around the web or build profiles, and we will update this page first.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad trackers.
- No social media pixels or session recording.
- No selling of data.
If you email us
We use your email only to reply to you. Please do not send us children's personal information.
Schools and families
Because we do not ask children for personal information, Brain Bell is designed with children's privacy rules in mind, including COPPA in the United States and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code. Teachers should use generated names, seat numbers or roster codes with children.
