Live quizzes for class

A free classroom quiz game: students scan and play, with no logins.

Start a five-minute bell ringer or a full review on the projector. Students join from any device with a QR code, answer the same questions together, and see a friendly podium at the end. No student accounts, no real names on our servers, no ads.

How it works

  1. Open a quiz. Pick the daily puzzles, a ready-made quiz or your own questions. The extra settings are there if you want them.
  2. Show the QR code. Students scan it with a phone, tablet or Chromebook camera, and join with one tap. Avatars pop onto your screen as they join.
  3. Play together. Everyone gets the same question at the same time, and your screen shows how many have answered.
  4. Celebrate. A podium, team scores and a Bell Boss the whole room beats together.

Pick how students join

  • Avatar and fun name. Nothing personal. Fastest to start, great for any class.
  • Seat or table number. Students tap their seat. Ideal for younger classes and rooms with fixed seating.
  • Roster codes. Print a code slip for each student. You see real names on your screen, but the names never leave your browser.
  • Teams and houses. Add Red, Blue and Green teams to any option for school-spirit competition.

Made for more than classrooms

Tutoring centers, after-school clubs, homeschool co-ops, language schools, libraries, camps and scouts all use short group warm-ups. If you can show a screen, you can run a live Brain Bell. It also works for teams at work, friends and parties, and large groups.

Private by design

We do not collect student personal information, show ads or use third-party trackers. Read the plain-language privacy policy.

Questions teachers ask

Do students need accounts or email addresses?
No. Students scan a QR code or type a six-character class code, pick an avatar, and play. We never ask for an email, a birthday or a photo.
Do students have to type their real names?
No. By default each student gets a fun generated name like "Brave Otter". Teachers can instead use seat numbers or table names, or private roster codes where real names are shown only on the teacher's own screen and never sent to our servers.
What devices work?
Any phone, tablet or Chromebook with a modern browser and a camera or keyboard. There is nothing to install.
How many students can join one quiz?
Hundreds, with the same questions and live scoring for everyone. That is plenty for a whole-school assembly.
Can we play in teams?
Yes. Add teams or houses such as Red, Blue and Green. Team scores are averaged so smaller teams are not at a disadvantage, and there is an optional Bell Boss that everyone beats together.
Is it free?
Yes. Brain Bell is free for teachers and students, with no ads and no sign-up.
Can we use our own questions?
Yes. The quiz maker has twelve question types, for your class, team or group, and you can play them live. Quizzes stay in your browser, and you can share one with a link or a file.
